MUMBAI: The police on Tuesday deployed huge manpower for multiple nakabandi and combing operations across the city following a terror alert.
It is believed that the police were on high alert on Tuesday as most terror attacks had been carried out on the 13th or 26th of a month. There were also reports that intelligence agencies had tipped off the city police about a possible terror strike.
All regional additional police commissioners were asked to review the security of their areas and accordingly draw a strategy for bandobast.
There was police presence in most areas and roads across the city. Policemen on night duty were also told to work round the clock for the day. Security staff at the airport and railway stations were asked to be alert too. State reserve forces and the quick response teams of the city police were in a standby position throughout the day. The police had been conducting mock drills across the city over the past few days to beef up their preparedness.
The police had deployed extra manpower near most five-star hotels, an officer said. "We also tipped the hotels' private security personnel about security positions."
Nakabandi and combing operations were started on Monday night and were supposed to continue till early Wednesday, said the officer. The police had conducted combing operations in the most suspect areas of the city. An officer said that no suspicious activity came to their notice during the security arrangements.
Policemen in plainclothes were asked to mingle with the crowds and be on a constant vigil.
